I have another contractor that I’m working with, and he holds all three spots in many of those search terms due to the diversity of his marketing. I don’t touch his website, Kyle; I only manage the directory and other marketing efforts.

A couple of weeks ago, we had a meeting, and he said, “Michelle, you’re going to really like this.” We’ve been evaluating our leads and where they’re coming from, and we really feel like we’re getting more leads from this offsite marketing than we are from our own website. I believe this trend will continue because consumers are searching differently.

The Shift in Consumer Behavior

They are digesting video content. YouTube is now the second largest search engine, surpassing Bing, Ask.com, AOL, and Yahoo combined. Every day, about 2.6 million videos are added to YouTube—it’s astronomical!

Additionally, we’re noticing that when consumers find a video they like, they often watch it and then click on links provided in the description. This trend shows a significant shift toward consuming video content followed by actions taken through links.

While having a good website is still essential, the way consumers search for information has changed drastically.
